As you might expect, the world of cybersecurity doesn’t sleep, so much so that keeping up with new threats and other impactful news actually feels like a full-time job. This is where our roundup of the month’s most impactful cybersecurity stories comes in. In the March 2025 edition, ESET Chief Security Evangelist Tony Anscombe looks at:

  • a bizarre twist on ransomware demands, as a scam is making the rounds that involves letters delivered in the mail to corporate executives and claiming to come from a ransomware group,
  • this month’s Patch Tuesday included patches for as many as six zero-day vulnerabilities in Microsoft products that attackers are actively exploiting in the wild,
  • a US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report according to which Americans lost US$12.5 billion to online fraud in 2024, which represents a 25-percent increase from the year before,
  • a warning by the UK National Cyber Security Centre for businesses and governments to prepare for quantum computer hacking by 2035
